240v Appliances
Some boats have a 240 volt power supply for additional items provided on the boat, such as hair-dryers, microwave ovens and toasters.
Arrival & Departure
Please aim to arrive between 2.30 pm and 4.00 pm on the start day. Boats are usually to be vacated by 9.30 am on the final morning.
Booking
Reservations can be made by telephone 7 days a week or on the Internet 24/7. Reservations made online will be confirmed from the booking office - usually within 24 hours, often quicker.
Any reservation is held for 7 days to enable payment to be made and for a booking form to be completed.
If you make your reservation by telephone you will still need to complete a booking form obtained either from a brochure

Children
........will love it. Buoyancy aids, cotsides, safety netting (on boats with a cruiser style stern) etc. available on request.
Car Parking
All operators provide parking on site, free of charge, at the owner's risk.
Extras
Most items, such as bedding, towels, fuel, pets and VAT, are included in the hire charge. Click here for details.
Fishing
On canals at any time, but don't forget to get a rod licence from the Environment Agency. Some restrictions on rivers.
Mobile Phones
Bring an in-car charger - all boats have a 12 volt car-style charging point. Phone are also available for hire.
Mooring
On canals you can stop virtually anywhere it is safe to do so on the 'towpath' side, which is owned by British Waterways. There may be some restrictions on rivers.
Licences
All boats are licensed to cruise on British Waterways' routes (virtually all the canals and rivers) but an additional licence may be required for certain independently owned rivers.
Personal Holiday Insurance
Personal holiday insurance is highly recommended for all UK customers. Many people do not think of taking out cover for their UK holiday but, other than flying, the risks are the same - dropping something in the canal, losing luggage, curtailment due to a family crisis. At just £8 per adult and £6 per child (per week or part-week), most people find they cannot get a better deal elsewhere.
Pets
Well behaved pets are always welcome but restrictions on numbers do apply. Additional cleaning charges may also be applied if the pets are not well behaved!!
Prices
The prices shown in the brochures and on the availability search pages on the web are inclusive of diesel fuel, heating, gas for cooking, car parking, bed linen, buoyancy aids and VAT. To this figure you will need to add:
Add 4% cancellation protection fee (unless you have your own cover)
Add £40 Damage Waiver (compulsory and not returnable, but this means there is no need for an expensive damage deposit)
Add the cost of any optional extras such as maps and guides
There is a 1% surcharge made on any payment made by Credit Card. (no charge for Debit Cards)
Scotland
Cruising is a little different in Scotland as all the locks are operated for you by British Waterways staff, by prior arrangement.
Short Breaks
Monday afternoon to Friday morning or Friday afternoon to Monday morning. Prices are usually 60% of of the hire charge shown for the nearest Saturday start date.
Towels
Check when you are booking whether towels are included. They are always supplied for customers travelling from overseas, on request.
Tuition
Novices are very welcome. Full instructions are given at the start of the holiday and there is a detailed manual on board. Excellent training CD also available for free.
z-z-z Bedding
Linen is provided, with bottom sheet, pillow & case, duvet & cover. All bedding is of man-made materials. Extra blankets can also be provided free on request.
